Project summary
Sustainable efficiency in Solingen
The Zinc Group specialises in advertising materials, merchandise and event materials. The global marketing company was founded in Melbourne, Australia, but its roots can be traced back to Solingen, where the German branch is still located today. Zinc Solingen manages the entire flow of goods for its diverse range of advertising materials – from production to packaging and shipping.
It is precisely this variety and abundance of advertising materials that poses a challenge to the systems in the overall process. When modernising the dispatch department in Solingen, where all the threads ultimately come together, it was therefore important to the Zinc Group to improve the ergonomics of the employees and reduce their physical strain in addition to optimising the structure of the processes.
Together with our distribution partner Evers, we developed a concept that fulfils the individual requirements of the Zinc Group and creates systematic packaging logistics that enable the modern supplier to secure its marketing experience for the future – with a highly flexible shipping department.
After thorough planning, a total of 12 logistics workstations were created which, together with the conveyor technology, support the entire logistics flow as a well thought-out system.
10 workstations are height-adjustable packing tables from the SYSTEM FLEX range. Packaging experts prefer to opt for the modular SYSTEM FLEX as it is unrivalled in terms of flexible adaptation: those who can adapt quickly and easily to changing processes and users guarantee efficiency and sustainability.
Two height-adjustable SYSTEM FLEX single tables face each other and form a double workstation, each with a scale integrated into the table top. This bundles work steps into optimised processes and saves time.
Eight further height-adjustable SYSTEM FLEX packing tables form two identical formations of four FLEX tables each – quadruple workstations: Two tables next to each other and two opposite each other.
These double and quadruple ‘islands’ are located in the centre of the directly connected, circulating conveyor system, surrounded by easily accessible shelves with packaging cartons – the perfect placement for healthy walkways, seamless flow of goods and systematic processes.
All 10 SYSTEM FLEX packing tables are equipped with sturdy heavy-duty Rocholz profiles. This creates three grooves in the table profiles at the workstations facing each other, which accommodate the accessories: A partition wall is inserted in the centre groove and additional accessories such as perforated back panels can be integrated into the outer grooves without tools.
This threefold utilisation option extends the individual adaptability of the workstations and ensures a tidy structure in which everything has its place. The result is clear, fast work steps that minimise errors.
The SYSTEM FLEX packing tables, which are positioned next to each other in the larger packing islands, are connected by an electrically height-adjustable lifting and weighing unit. With this unit, users can always set the correct working height, depending on the size of the carton and body, and weigh the parcels at the same time – seamlessly, time-saving and without back pain.
Special cross beams made of Rocholz profile bridge the space above the units between the packing tables and thus create space for accessories such as hand dispensers that can be reached quickly and ergonomically and are needed here.
In addition, the shelves are continued above the lifting unit by hooking them into the outer heavy-duty profiles of the neighbouring tables. Here, every millimetre is used sensibly for all the necessary work equipment – without additional structures that could restrict access. This is precisely what characterises the modular system.
All SYSTEM FLEX packing tables have additional, flexibly positionable accessories that, for example, integrate label printers and keyboards within ergonomic reach. The ‘everything has its place’ theme is continued here, so that the tables remain free for packaging work.
In addition to the SYSTEM FLEX logistics tables, two SYSTEM FLEX Light packing tables have been integrated into the system, which are ‘actually’ our complete system for newcomers to the world of packaging: SYSTEM FLEX Light combines the FLEX advantages – standard ergonomic electric height adjustment and FLEX accessories above the table – with a budget-friendly price. At Zinc in Solingen, full professionals also benefit from this solution and use the two complete packing tables (with matching special colour gentian blue) for quality control.
The flexible equipment adapts to all processes and requirements and combines future-proof efficiency with sustainable ergonomics, from which everyone benefits in the long term.
Many thanks to the Zinc Group and our sales partner Evers for their trust and constructive cooperation.
