Project Babymarkt

Efficient Processing of Returns – SYSTEM FLEX Packing Tables for Babymarkt in Dortmund, Germany

Babymarkt.de GmbH (babymarkt.de) is the market leader for baby and toddler supplies in Germany and was founded 16 years ago in Dortmund, Germany. Although the company’s headquarters are now located in Bochum's O-Werk, babymarkt is going back to its roots with its new returns warehouse in Dortmund-Dorstfeld.

Babymarkt is the largest online retailer in the Ruhr area of Germany, and is well aware of the high quality of its products. That's why investing in a new warehouse especially equipped for returns was worthwhile – most returned items can easily be re-sold without further handling. The returns from the international online business are processed in the new warehouse, which covers an area of around 4,300 square metres.

With roughly 1,000 parcels arriving daily at peak times, the main goal was to manage these quantities efficiently. Our sales partner Evers (www.eversgmbh.de) took on the project to equip the warehouse with the most efficient workstations possible for the approximately 100 employees in returns processing. The Rocholz SYSTEM FLEX packing tables are robust and flexible enough to allow ergonomic and process-optimised organisation of the necessary work equipment at the workplace when dealing with these volumes of parcels. This includes, among other things, shelves that can be individually adjusted in 39mm increments to the best height for the operator without the use of tools; display panel holders, continuously height-adjustable and swivelling folding arms for monitors and keyboards and cable clamps for perfect cable management.

The 36 "unpacking stations" are configured as double workstations: due to the grid perforation on both sides of the HR profile, the station can be used for two workstations, which reduces costs and still offers each workstation all the options for adapting and expanding. The directly connected 130 m long conveyor system ensures a seamless material flow and fast handling. With the new workstation in place, about 95 % of the goods can be quickly transferred to the appropriate dispatch warehouses, after thorough and efficient inspection of the package contents.
