Ergonomics: working with well-being

Ergonomics training for employees is an important measure to promote health and well-being in the workplace. In June, the IGR was in our house and Mr. Brunner informed us about the basic principles of ergonomics and deepened how we can apply ergonomic principles in our everyday work.

The training started with an introduction to ergonomics and why it is important. We were given an overview of the effects of poor ergonomics on health, such as back pain and muscle tension. Poor posture, incorrectly adjusted work equipment or an inadequately set up workplace can lead to complaints. Therefore, Mr Brunner placed special emphasis on the importance of breaks and short exercise units (e.g. in the form of walks) during the working day. Exercises were shown that can be done during the working day to relieve tension and promote blood circulation.

After we had dedicated ourselves in detail to the area of behavioural ergonomics, we focused on the relationship ergonomics, which we as the Rocholz company can influence in a sustainable way. Relational ergonomics in the workplace refers to the design of the working environment, conditions and organisation in order to improve the health, safety and performance of employees. It includes the placement of work stations, the correct height of desks, adaptable workplace lighting, as well as arranging screens and keyboards in ergonomic positions and setting up storage and retrieval systems for easy accessibility. In addition, there was a practical exercise in which we were divided into working groups and asked to work out together how we could bring the topic of ergonomics closer to our customers and sales partners. The results were very diverse, but could be summed up in one essential factor: Ergonomic design of products helps users to use them more comfortably and efficiently and thus leads to significant cost savings through minimised downtime.

By participating in the ergonomics training, we have been sensitised and empowered to implement ergonomic principles in our everyday work. This not only helps to improve health and well-being, but also increases efficiency and productivity in the workplace. Companies benefit in the long term from healthier and more satisfied employees who suffer less from health complaints and are more motivated in their approach to their tasks.
