Employee health as part of sustainability - SYSTEM FLEX packing tables and roller tracks for ml&s

ml&s is a full-service provider for the electronics industry and offers everything from a single source: from the assembly of printed circuit boards and the production of subracks to the configuration of entire systems, quality assurance, shipping and after-sales service. With around 550 employees and more than 2100 products, the service provider supplies over 50 customers worldwide and equips them competently, reliably and comprehensively.

At ml&s, quality forms the basis for all decisions and processes. It is not only reflected in products and services, but also begins with the targeted development of employees. Their health is a central component of sustainability for ml&s.

Accordingly, the redesign of the dispatch area required high-quality equipment that would ensure efficient processes and improve the ergonomics of the employees at the same time. Rocholz GmbH was commissioned to do this.

Our sales partner Hellbut & Co. GmbH carried out an individual customer consultation, then carefully analysed the requirements and developed the optimum solution for ml&s based on this.

Previously, the dispatch area at ml&s was designed to fit the space rather than the employees: The packing tables and roller tracks were aligned along the walls, which led to long walking distances and unfavourable movement sequences for the employees. The aim was to make intelligent use of the space and optimise the work processes.

To achieve this, the focus was literally placed on people: instead of placing the work tables against the wall as before, Hellbut set up a double workstation consisting of two SYSTEM FLEX packing tables in the centre of the new dispatch area. From this central hub, employees can quickly and ergonomically access all secondary work points: The space is utilised efficiently and walking distances are shortened.

The two SYSTEM FLEX tables in the double workstation were each fitted with electric height adjustment, which enables quick and easy adaptation to every process and every employee. This means they can always work at the optimum ergonomic height: This reduces strain and prevents illness.

The Rocholz profiles of the packing tables were fitted with shelves, holders and racks, which shifted the storage space for work equipment, tools and cardboard boxes upwards. As a result, everything has its tidy and ergonomically designed place and the main work area on the table surface remains free for the actual packing work. This makes work ergonomic and fast.

A scale was integrated into each of the two table tops so that the weighed packages can be pushed on their way to the roller track in a single work step - without any loss of time or additional effort.

Another SYSTEM FLEX packing table was placed at the front of the double workstation, which practically and ergonomically integrates an additional work point with an under-table cutter for roll packaging material into the dispatch area.

Two roller tracks at a 90° angle to each other frame the double workstation on one side and extend along the walls. The 90° interface is supplemented by an attached ball roller plate, which makes it easier to change the direction of the parcels - for an even and reliable parcel flow.

Another special feature customised to the needs of ml&s is the gluing table, which has been integrated as an additional work point. It runs parallel to the longitudinal roller track and along the double workstation island.

The table was designed with a shallow depth of 500 mm to ensure ergonomic movement when walking and taping the parcels. Three double drawers under the table top, which keep other packaging materials and tools neatly organised and within easy reach, round off the gluing table perfectly.

The central double workstation utilises the available space effectively and, thanks to its positioning, enables short and needs-based routes, ergonomic reach zones and efficient processes. Employees reach the secondary work points in a way that is ergonomic and process-orientated and can carry out all the necessary work steps systematically and ergonomically.

To summarise: Here you work in a health-promoting way and save time at the same time. Efficiency increases, stress and absenteeism decrease.

The durable and flexible packing tables and roller tracks combine and fulfil customer requirements for sustainability, ergonomics and efficiency. Thanks to its modular design, SYSTEM FLEX can be retrofitted and converted at any time to suit any process and can also accommodate state-of-the-art technology such as digital assistance systems - making it a reliable partner for the future.

Understanding employee health as part of sustainability is a success factor. Ergonomics - correctly implemented - almost automatically achieves efficiency. This was impressively demonstrated here. We are delighted to have been part of this wonderful project. Thank you very much!
